Principles and methodology

We regard the management of carbon emissions as a vital part of a company’s commitment to responsible business and its longer-term sustainability.

Carbon management should be integrated into a company’s overall corporate social responsibility approach (CSR). Carbon management should be instilled in the company culture and should ideally form part of every employee’s job description. In some companies, carbon measurement or ‘foot printing’ can be used as the first step towards developing a formal CSR approach.

Our approach to carbon footprint measurement is based on the existing Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard. We promote continuous improvement through a strict hierarchy of:

  • Improved operational efficiency and employee engagement
  • Investment in carbon efficient technologies
  •  Investment in renewable energy technologies
  • Offsetting carbon emissions (optional)

We support the principles of the Carbon Trust Standard and can apply for certification by the Carbon Trust Standard Company Limited on behalf of our customers.
