Batteries collection targets

Portable batteries

• 25% collection rate by end 2012 and 45% by end 2016
• Interim collection targets been put in place be put in place by the UK government for years 2010 (10%) and 2011 (18%)
• Recycling levels to be applied from 2011 (75% by average weight of nickel-cadmium batteries and accumulators and 50% by average weight of other waste batteries and accumulators)
• All collected batteries to be recycled
  
• No penalties proposed for failure to meet the interim targets up to 2012

Industrial/automotive batteries

• Ban on landfill and incineration – therefore all batteries to be recycled 
• Recycling rate of 65% to be achieved
