Who is obligated?
If your business places electrical or electronic equipment (EEE) onto the UK market through UK based manufacture, by importing in to the UK or by selling equipment manufactured by someone else that is sold under your own brand, then you are considered to be an obligated producer under the UK WEEE Regulations.
If your business sells electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) to consumers, either direct via shops or through the internet/catalogues then you are considered to be a ‘distributor’ under the regulations.
Unlike the packaging regulations, there is no threshold for producers under the WEEE Regulations so regardless of your company turnover and regardless of how much EEE you put on the UK market, you are affected if you do one of the above two main activities. Follow our online decision tree and find out if you are obligated under the WEEE Regulations.
