Glossary of terms

ATF

Accredited treatment facility for WEEE.

B2B WEEE (also known as non-household)

Companies selling products that ultimately end up with other companies or organisations WEEE arising from commercial premises rather than with consumers or households (either direct or through wholesaler/retailer links).

B2C WEEE (also known as household)

WEEE that arises in domestic premises that is not used for business purposes.

Environment Agency

Future WEEE

WEEE which will be generated from products placed on the market after the date set in the legislation.

Historical WEEE

WEEE generated from products which were placed on the market prior to the date set in the legislation.

Household WEEE (also known as B2C)

WEEE that arises in domestic premises that is not used for business purposes.

Non-household WEEE (also known as B2B WEEE)

Companies selling products that ultimately end up with other companies or organisations WEEE arising from commercial premises rather than with consumers or households (either direct or through wholesaler/retailer links).

Placed onto the market

Manufactured in the UK or imported saleable goods.

Producer

Importer, manufacturer in the UK or own brand supplier.

Retailer

Any organisation that sells WEEE to domestic consumers.

Re-use

Repair or refurbishment for further use.

Separately collected

WEEE that is put out for collection separately to other waste or recyclables.

Supplier

An organisation that supplies electrical and electronic equipment to the end-user. This can be, but is not necessarily, the producer.

WEEE

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (comes under scoping criteria) including all components, sub assemblies and consumables which are part of the product at the time of discarding.
