Product markings required
By 1 April 2007 producers must ensure that they mark the EEE they place on the UK market with the “crossed-out wheeled bin” symbol and their unique producer identification mark as reported with your registration. The crossed-out wheeled bin and date markings can be purchased via BSI online.
The black bar underneath the crossed out wheeled bin signifies the date and that the EEE was placed on the market after August 2005. The product markings need to be in a visible, legible and indelible form on the product itself, except for in exceptional circumstances where this is not possible because of the size or function of the product. In such cases, the markings must be printed on the packaging, the instructions for use and the accompanying warranty (where applicable).
A point of note is that if a producer imports branded EEE into the UK for which they are not the brand owner then they can only register the brand on the EEE if it is unique to them i.e. they are the only one placing that brand on the UK market. If multiple importers also import the same branded EEE then only one would be able to register that particular brand name and the remainder would need to separately mark the EEE they are placing on the UK market with their own unique mark that they also need to notify to their producer compliance scheme upon registration. A unique producer identification mark could be a company name, brand, logo, number or symbol for example.
