UK leaders in compliance and recycling solutions

Are you a producer of WEEE?

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive is European legislation now implemented in the UK under the WEEE Regulations. These regulations are far reaching and affect manufacturers, brand owners, importers, retailers, consumers and re-users of electrical and electronic goods.

The WEEE regulations place a responsibility on obligated producers to pay the costs of collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE in the UK from 1 July 2007.

All producers must meet the requirements of the regulations, regardless of size or market share. Producers are defined as those manufacturing, importing or selling under own label electrical and electronic equipment. Producers are then divided into two categories, B2C for those that supply to consumers and B2B for those that supply to business end-users, who have differing responsibilities under the proposed regulations.

For obligated B2B producers there is a requirement to collect new WEEE at end of life from business end-users and for historic WEEE to collect at end of life when replacing equipment on a like-for-like basis.

Obligated B2C producers should now have registered with an approved compliance scheme, such as Comply Direct, who can handle the legal producer obligation on your behalf.
