WEEE distributor (retailer) compliance
Distributors (retailers) selling new electrical or electronic goods (including distance sellers) are required by the directive to provide a free take back system for waste electrical and electronic equipment for private households.
There is no lower threshold for the amount of EEE sold within a retail outlet and therefore possibly over 100,000 UK retailers will be required to either contribute to a central collective retail compliance scheme (Distributor Take Back System – DTS) or offer free in-store take back on a like-for-like one for one basis.
Retailers taking the option of offering their customers free in-store take back for all categories of EEE sold, have to fund the transportation of such WEEE to a designated collection facility (DCF), at which point obligated producers take over the financing responsibility.
Whichever route taken, all separately collected WEEE must have an end result of re-use, recovery or recycling. We have a range of solutions in place for taking away the WEEE disposal problem from high street retailers and their distribution companies. For example, you can use our collection service or we can integrate into your own logistics operation. Producer obligation
If you are a retailer and import EEE into the UK or sell EEE under your own brand label then you are likely to pick up a producer obligation in addition to your distributor (retailer) obligation. Comply Direct offers a simple and low cost solution for fulfilling your producer obligation.
