Comply Direct support local charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust

27th July 2017

Melanie Harper

Volunteers from our Comply Direct team swapped our Broughton Hall office for a hillside near Stainforth to help spruce up a young woodland, with local charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT).

Upper Bargh wood was planted nine years ago on an exposed seven-acre site to the north of Stainforth. Over the years strong winds and harsh weather conditions have caused some damage, leaving parts of the site in need of general maintenance work to help ensure the young trees prosper.

Under the expert guidance of YDMT’s Woodland Officer Carol Douglas a team of five volunteers from Comply Direct began working their way through the woodland, straightening and replacing damaged tree guards and stakes to provide the growing trees with maximum protection and support.

Carol said:
“I was very impressed by the enthusiasm of the team at Comply Direct. The group worked hard and, together with help from a Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority woodland volunteer, we achieved a great deal at this young woodland, giving the trees the best opportunity to continue to develop and establish strongly.”

Comply Direct aim to constantly give back to society. Employees are actively encouraged to divide their time between workplace duties and supporting Comply Direct's nominated charities by volunteering and fundraising.

Jess Booth, Sales Support Specialist, Comply Direct, said:
"The morning volunteering was very enjoyable for us all. We could totally see the difference we made in just a few hours. It was very informative to learn more about the work the YDMT does and I would encourage other people to volunteer”

Comply Direct staff have also volunteered to help collect wildflower seeds to restore hay meadows and have raised money for YDMT through a variety of fundraising initiatives, including walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks and a sky dive.

Since 2012 Comply Direct has helped YDMT secure more than £180,000 to support a range of environmental projects across the Yorkshire Dales, including woodland restoration.
