The latest batteries data published by the Environment Agency shows that the UK is on track to achieve over 40% collection of portable batteries placed on the market in 2012.
For the last five years, the majority of those collected are portable lead acid batteries with the number of NiCad and "other” batteries staying reasonably consistent.
In 2012 to date 14,657.644 tonnes of portable batteries have been placed on the market. For 2012 the UK target for collection is 25% of the average annual tonnage placed on the market in 2010, 2011 and 2012 (2012 figure is estimated using 2012 Q2 data). This indicates that the UK obligation will be 9,186.825 tonnes with collection in 2012 to date at 6,049.167 tonnes.
